When You Can’t Read – Listen!

If you’re a regular reader of this site you’ll know that I promote the need to – Invest In Yourself So You Can Design Your Own Life. And the most practised method of investing in yourself is reading.

But, what can you do when you can’t read? Let’s say you’re driving or making breakfast, but the urge to improve yourself is strong. This is where listening works perfectly.

Not only is listening to inspirational, educational and motivational material great when you need your hands free, but it reinforces the ideas you’ve picked up from reading. The human brain can learn in a variety of ways and using two rather than one will help you learn.

A fantastic resource I highly recommend is Audible. It’s an Amazon company and has 1000’s of fantastic audio books. What’s more you can get a free audio book when you sign up! Click Here to create your account.

momentum
Don’t Stop When You’re Tired. Stop When You’re Done!

Goals – from losing weight to conquering the world, we’ve all set them at some point. At the start we’re fired up and can’t wait to do the work to achieve them.

Then a bad day appears out of the blue or slow progress causes you to lose hope and the goal seems so far away! Motivation takes a nose dive and you’re left feeling like there was no point trying. What’s more you take a look at the super successful with their impressive achievements and wonder how do they do it?

Here’s my 3 top tips to keep the motivation high during your goal achieving journey.

Break The Goals Up

If your goal is to lose 10 pounds, break it down into 10, 1 pound goals. Here’s why; it gives you something more realistic and attainable to focus on. Losing a pound is not going to take months of hard work only days.

And every time you lose a pound you’re one step closer.

Anticipate The Road Bumps

No matter how big or small your goal, not every day will be rosy. There are going to be bad days, accept this and power through them with the mindset that you have one less bad day to finish in order to be successful.

Remember Why You Started

Always have the end in mind. This will drag you through the bad days and compel you to work on those days when you’re craving a duvet day!

stairs
The Elevator to Success Is Out of Order. You’ll Have to Use the Stairs…One Step at a Time – Joe Girard

Success is not something that happens overnight it takes time, hard work and persistence.

Unfortunately, it is widely perceived that success happens with one giant leap whereas, in reality it’s achieved through many tiny wins.Getting up at 5am, working until midnight, going without a holiday for years – all the nitty gritty things that the media don’t report.

Life will bring you success only if you’re willing to pay the price – do the work. Step out of your comfort zone, face your fears and push through the failures. There are no short cuts, no loop holes or magic doors. The price has to be paid.

The journey is more important than the result. The reason being it’s not what you achieve that’s important, but what it forces you to become. How it changes the skills, ideas and thoughts you possess will be the key that unlocks the door to your success!

Success doesn’t care how long you take to attain it, it will always be waiting no matter how long you take.

Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan

Lots of people make plans. They plan for holidays, weddings, babies, parties etc, but how many actually plan their future?

Before we can design a plan, we first need to know where we are going. Setting goals will bring focus and clarity to your life along with a time-scale, from this you can build a plan.

Once you know where you’re going the next step is to take stock of where you are. What are you current circumstances?

From this we can ask the question; How do I go from where I am now to where I want to be?

Then we can break down the improvement we need to make into smaller more realistic goals that are less overwhelming.

Breaking the progress we need to make down by day plots a clear path to success and holds us accountable.

All We Have To Give Is Our Personal Service

We came into this world with nothing, we will leave with nothing, all there is in between is our consciousness – The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari

Material possessions play a massive part in the modern world. From Iphones to cars, and clothes to cash in the bank, we are ruled by items.

We spend more time debating over who gets what when a loved one dies than thinking of the memories they’ve left behind. When all we really have is our memories.

Our memories make us unique and form part of who we are – they build our character and enhance our personality. Whereas, our possessions can be owned by anyone and push us deeper into the crowd.

We have a choice, put your focus on;

Investing in possessions so your home is full of items.

Or;

Investing in experiences so your mind is full of memories.

get up early
Get Up Before The Birds!

A common trait running through most successful people is waking up early. From Michelle Obama to Richard Branson getting up before the sun is fundamental to achieving goals.

But, why do goal driven individuals rise before the 9-5 majority?

Purpose

The main reason they wake early is their reason’s bigger, they desire to get up so they can achieve goals and live life. You might say it’s easy to get up early when they’re successful and life is going well. And that’s true, it is easier.

But, for life to get easier, hard word has to be completed. You don’t get something for nothing in this world.

If you’re not throwing back the covers and jumping out of bed to crack on with your work, then take a look at your purpose. Is it big enough?

Benefits

If you want success it makes sense to emulate what successful people do – model their life, taken on their rituals. Here are three benefits to waking early.

It’s All So Quiet

There’s a peace and quiet to mornings that’s hard to describe, it can’t be found at another time of day. Everywhere is still, leaving you with only your thoughts and nothing else – allowing you to fully focus on your goals.

The Early Bird Catches The Worm

Time is our most precious asset. We’re all given 86,400 seconds each day that have to be used, they cannot be carried over. The difference between a successful person and a not-so successful one is how they use their time.

Rising one hour early, 5 days a week for a year would give you an extra 260 hours per year – that’s over 10 days!! How would you use an extra 1o days?

A Fresh Mind Is A Creative Mind

I find my mind produces the best ideas in the morning. There are fewer distractions and less to think about. For the main part all my mind usually has to process on a morning is how hungry I am, what’s left are my ideas.

It makes sense to use your mind when it is at its most effective. Use the mornings for creative thinking and the evenings for exercise to release some tension from a productive day’s work.

Invest In Yourself So You Can Design Your Own Life

We all have dreams and goals. For us to achieve them we need to grow, our thoughts and then, actions have to change.

A great question to ask in pursuit of any goal is;

What do I have to become to achieve it?

This will spark a whole host of other questions and require more thinking, on your own and with a mastermind group.

Those you ask questions generally find answers

Plant Seeds Daily

One ritual that has been key to me going from £50,000 in debt to embarking on exploring Australia within 4 years is; reading or listening to 30 minutes of inspirational, educational or motivational material every day.

Garbage In = Garbage Out

Whatever you out into the mind you’ll get the same out. If you’re feeding the mind with good stuff, you’ll get good out. The same is true of bad stuff.

However, the same is true of great ideas. Feed the mind great ideas and you’ll produce great ideas.

If you’re looking for new ideas check out my 2 blog post on business biography books. I’m confident you’ll find some ideas from the greatest minds in the past 100 years.

confidence to be you

Have The Confidence To Be You

The only way we can have everything we want from life is by becoming a different person. And by that I don’t me completely changing your personality and the way you act so your loved ones don’t recognise you, but merely becoming more you. Emphasizing what makes you, YOU!

No Worries, Be Happy

The main reason I change the way I behave is, I’m conscious of what people will think. What will they think of me? What judgement will they make?

When I’m in this frame of mind I tell myself – it’s none of my business what other people think of me!

We are allowed to think what we like, there is no law on thinking…yet! And, besides 9 times out of 10 my assumptions (or paranoia) to what people are thinking are normally wrong. In fact, what they’re thinking probably isn’t about me – being self-centred just comes natural.

Express Yourself

The only way to be truly happy is to ooze your personality into every conversation and interaction. Accept who you are and be comfortable with it.

You are unique. Sure, not everyone will like you, but someone will love you.
